Real Music for Music Fans MY WAY. You are making this happen.
I want to write a little bit about My music and why YOU are so important and have been so instrumental in my being able to do this. The music industry used to be very different as many of you already know. The record label decided when, where and how you were going to make music, if at all. A few years ago, I was in a major label bidding war. You’d think that was a good thing but it was NOT. They wanted me to change everything, from the way I look, to my lyrics, to the very style of the music I wanted to do.
This old school system did not sit right with me (to say the least) so I backed off and basically said, “Well,if that’s the only way this can happen, then I choose not to do it”.
Which leads me to where we are today. I kept writing and playing and singing and the songs kept building up and building up. I never thought I would end up doing anything with them, I just wrote them because I had to. It was a personal creative need to express myself creatively that made me keep writing. Then, last year I realized something very important. Because of new media and the way that the music industry is changing and developing, I CAN now do my music, my way. So… long story short, a dear friend of mine owns his own studio, he agreed to bro me out and do some recording. We started simply with just me playing guitar and singing, then we added the fabulous David J’s Bass tracks and keyboard parts. Then we kept working on it until I was able to get the sound in my head completed and onto the tape.
By doing a pre-release of the Stormwinds single, you guys have paid for the creation and design of the packaging and the printing of the CDs. Now that this single is available on iTunes and Amazon, that money will be saved up and put towards paying for more studio time. I can now decide how, when and where this will happen. It is all because of you and your support, and I’m so grateful.
I am so excited and thrilled that you are enjoying it, and I can’t wait to be able to put more music out. We will see how the sales go and then we can work out a tour schedule etc.
By doing this on my own, with no backing whatsoever, just me and my fellow ALM creatives are free to go create, make music for you and share it with you, straight to you, without some conglomerate stealing 99.9% of funds. It’s about the music, making music and bringing it to the people. It’s so simple and yet amazingly cool. This is the first time basically since music started being recorded that an individual can be in complete control of the creation and distribution of their music.
I have done no paid publicity to promote the single, it is promoted by your word of mouth. So please if you like it, recommend it to a friend, spread the word, and write a review for it so more folks can find out about it. The most important part of this for me is that I can share my stuff with as many people as possible. Music is one of the most powerful art forces there is. I couldn’t have lived all these years without the music I have had in my life, and I want to give back. I am and always have been and independent gal, and this is a dream come true for me. Its raw, it’s real and it’s coming straight from me to you.
This is what the concept of The ALM is all about. Independent Art, Music, Film, Dance, etc.
Going against the old school and making art happen, guerilla style if necessary. Freedom of expression, freedom of speech, doing it on your own, your own way. The ALM is about speaking your mind, bringing awareness to the things that matter to you, through art.
I am hoping to be able to start building an Armed Love Militia site soon. The old site was the first step and was mainly showing some of my artwork, but the new one will be showcasing all of the ALM artworks missions.
I want to provide ALM stencils for anyone that wants to use them , in whatever way they want to use them ;)!
Any of you can become a member of The Armed Love Militia - Make art! It’s that simple, make art and share it with the world.
So there you have it, I’ve revealed all the secrets to you. You made this happen, and YOU are what is continuing to make this happen. Thank you from the marrow of my bones, I love you one and all.

Yes..this is the right way. I had an Independent record label in the 80’s, so I know what it’s like to start from the ground up. All the while, the radio stations and record distributors would cater mostly to major label stuff and only a tiny, few independents that ‘cut’ special deals with the majors.
The whole thing was rigged, an uphill battle all the way. But, you can always carve out a niche for yourself at some point.
I’d like to find out more about ALM and join; for sure.
Thanx,
Mike Martin
That’s how it should be. Art made for art’s sake, created honestly and viscerally, with those that truly love and want to behold it helping to provide the necessary funds. I’ve been telling everyone I know who I believe might be interested that you are releasing music (and then I make them listen to the teaser for Stormwinds =P ), and I shall continue to do so. I’m so happy we will soon all be able to hear your music, and that it will truly be *yours*.
Oh, and I do hope there will be tours, it will be so amazing to see and hear you perform live!
Ohh,,, point of interest:
At the end of the Blog above it states “this entry was posted on Saturday, October 16th, 2010 at 5:52 am”
Well, I’m on West Coast time…I logged on at 11:30pm Friday nite, and it sez (above) that I left my Comment on Sat Oct 16th at 6:41 am (??!)
That’s 7 hours ahead, which means Fairuza’s Server or Computer (by my computations) would be out in the Atlantic Ocean-somewhere!!!!!
Weird.
Ha - thanks Michael. This message came from the future, and you haven’t read it yet. Right now, we were set to UTC, but I’m switching to PDT. ~Shannon
I for one love the music. Not only the music, but the feeling and emotion that seems to go into it. with so many bands releasing cookie cutter songs these days, it is very refreshing to have read this entry and seen what the music actually means.
thank you.
I have been a fan for years, first of your movies, then, through this site, art work and now music. thank you for having the will to hold out until it could be done right.

Good things come to those who wait:D Most CDs that I have have 3 brilliant, emotional songs on them, the rest you can hear were just made to quickly release the CD. It’s a pity because most of them have enough money to do things independently.
You’ve always been real and alive, it’s not hard to see. I’m so glad to get to know YOUR WAY of making music, it’s great to see another good artist with the right kind of motivation and attitude. That major label’s got nothing to do with real art if it wanted to change you anyhow, and that’s not a compliment at all, just bare truth.
About pre-released single and our contribute, I just want to say that it’s a great opportunity to feel more useful as a fan, and it’s just great to have a feedback of that kind, you’re the one who knows how to use internet the right way, no doubt!
Thank you for sharing with us, you’re great.
It really is awesome that after decades of the corporate record labels creating the thickest glass ceiling possible that the internet has made it possible to give them a real kick in the ass as well as open the door to the artist making art instead of the artist being turned into a human dollar sign. It’s also really cool knowing that by buying the single of Stormwinds that I got to contribute to funding more recording time, it’s nice knowing as a fan that I’m getting to help. As for the plans to eventually go on tour, try and play in Las Vegas since it’s where I live and well it’s Vegas, who’d want to miss that on a national tour.
I was so very excited to have the chance to purchase this tune not only in its physical form as I always buy a hardcopy…I love the art of it, but the digital version as well. I put it on my cellphone and my ipod..one from Amazon and one from iTunes since it was easier that way but it was well worth it. I was blown away by the creativity and lyrical components. Your voice was emotional and just wonderful. I certainly look forward to further releases and count me in for anything I can do to help spread the word! Thanks for taking the time to share this with your fans.
It’s amazing that you share so much with everyone, I wish more people were like you…
I just wanted to thank you, from the bottom of my heart for sending me the note you did, all the way to Australia. You have made my day/week/month/year/millennium etc. You are truly awesome, i can’t wait to receive the CD!
Thanks so much for the beautiful card! What a nice suprise, be assured of my continued support. Love, Larry

Your song is incredible, Fairuza! It resonates within me. We actually have a similar style of writing, singing and musical style; it reminds me of the work I did with my last band “Deviant Trust.” Keep it up - I’ve always been a fan of your work. I can’t wait to hear more!
