Box.jpg (40964 bytes)This is film is an absolute masterpiece! I've seen some other reviews and I do disagree on one attribute: the acting. I thought it was just as well done as any other film like this. The costuming was esquisite and intricate. The directors did an incredible job on recreating the opulence of the French aristocracy at Versailles. The on-location filming was wonderful as well. The chatĂȘaux used in this film were tastefully chosen. Props, costuming, sets etc. were completely authentic to the period. Fairuza Balk, Annette Bening, Colin Firth etc. were excellent in their performance. Though this movie is racy at times, it's an incredible recreation of the actual 18th century French novel written in 1785. The true essence, snobbery, and indifference of 18th century French aristocracy is totally included and renacted in the characters and atmosphere. The music is authentic French classicism...this entire movie is incredible!! I urge everyone reading this to rent it or buy it on video!
